The content of these modules was developed at Iowa State University by Laura Bestler who works for the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at Iowa State University as the Program Coordinator for Special Initiatives. Dr. Bestler is also the CELT website and marketing coordinator overseeing online communications, social networks, and media. She received her doctoral degree in educational leadership with a concentration in social justice from ISU. Dr. Davis worked with Dr. Bestler to bring these modules to you.

Objectives

Engaging in these online learning modules will help you to:

  • Explore what teaching inclusively is and recognize why it is important at the George Washington Universtiy School of Nursing (GWSON).
  • Identify your attitudes towards inclusion, acknowledge how it impacts teaching, and develop strategies to be more inclusive.
  • Enhance self-awareness and instructional skills that may contribute to our inclusive campus environment.
  • Become familiar with the student support resources at GWU.

After participating in these online modules, you will be able to:

  • Identify discipline-based and course specific improvements to foster inclusive excellence in the classroom.
  • Develop an inclusive pedagogical practices action plan based upon the mindful syllabus and course design checklist.
  • Become aware of the campus resources that promote student success.

You will explore relevant readings, watch videos, complete short module take-aways, and participate in critical reflection questions.
